GOD is committed to developing intimacy with His children but the level of our intimacy with God is determined by us and never by God. In Exodus 20: 18-20, When God brought the Children of Israel out of the Land of Egypt, He instructed Moses to bring them to Mount Sinai, so that he will reveal Himself to them, and draw them closer to Himself, but when God showed up on Mount Sinai, the children of Israel drew back from Him except Moses,who went unto the thick Darkness to meet with God.
It is only by drawing closer to God can we really experience the true weight of our redemptive status. God is closer to us than we think, and He yearns for an intimate relationship with us In James 4: 8, God asked us to draw nigh to Him, because he is yearning for fellowship with us, His Children. Drawing closer to Him will develop into an intimate relationship with him. This is the greatest invitation of God to humanity, we must draw nigh to Him. A redeemed man has the tendency of developing intimacy with God; this is so because the Spirit of Christ has been put into man to yearn passionately for relationship With God. Man was created to fellowship with God. Fellowship here means rubbing mind together, sharing ideas.
Man was created in the image and likeness of God. He is in the same level with God to rub minds with Him but this relationship was cut short when man sinned against God. In James 4: 5, the Spirit of God in us yearns for fellowship with us. This is the work of Holy Spirit in us. In Psalm 40: 5, God is telling us that the Love he has for us has generated into things that cannot be counted, things that eyes have not seen nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man (1 Cor2:9), but for us to be aware of them and cause them to Manifest in our lives, we must draw closer to Him and, in doing so, every satanic forces fighting against our destiny will be destroyed. Psalm 139: 17, tells us that the plans of God towards us are expressed through words, but for us to know these thought and plans, we must draw closer to God. It is those who press for personal encounter with God (promiser) that will not miss their promise land ( Blessing) In this Easter week, let us purge ourselves of any filthiness that will hinder us from developing an intimate relationship with God. God is looking for people who are hungry for Him and with whom He want to walk with. It is not enough coming to church everyday but we must develop a deep relationship with the Lord. We must learn to hear from God. Seek Him and in doing so, he will reveal Himself to us. It is time we go back to God.
To draw near to God, we must do three things:
- Be hungry for God.
- Worship Him from our heart,
- Reverence God.
